I was just privileged to experience my fifth Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC), and it was the best CLC and Celebration Awards Gala yet. But each one has brought about new growth in this most exciting industry. I am blessed with friendships I made in Calgary in 2008, Cincinnati in 2009, Chicago in 2011, Los Angeles in 2013 and now Los Angeles again this year. The leadership training and collaboration that I’ve experienced through my ASID membership is priceless!
ASID has claimed its rightful place as the one voice for the interior design profession. We are as diverse as the places and experiences that join us together. We are evocative, insightful and effective as one united voice with many different paths and stories. The focus of the Society is to engage emerging professionals from all walks of life. These professionals are giving a public presence to interior design by being visible leaders in major projects and offering mentorship opportunities to up-and-coming peers.
The national leadership team was accessible to all participants during the entire time at CLC, Dwell on Design and Celebration. And Paramount Studios was the perfect venue for the Celebration festivities. Celebrity impersonators and amazing tour guides entertained. The décor was beautiful and everyone was treated to a red carpet experience, paparazzi, delicious food and signature cocktails.
The fellows and award recipients were honored. There was a spectacular opening show. Randy Fiser was treated to a serenade by “Marilyn Monroe,” followed by a celebration of groundbreaking projects and products created by exceptionally talented people. A vibrant dance floor erupted after the show and then an impromptu after-party was announced by the bus driver so new and old friends could continue celebrating the magic of our profession.
The people make the difference. And when passion is shared the effect is multiplied.
You can make the next one even better! Bring a friend. Invite a colleague. Participate in Real World Design Week, committees, chapter boards and national opportunities. I look forward to attending Celebration 2015 in Boston.
