Who doesn’t like free money? The ASID Rebate Program allows ASID Student Chapters to gain a solid income to help fund chapter events, travel, recruitment drives, and programs. The student chapter will receive $5 for each ASID student member affiliated with their chapter that joins or renews online. Check out the top three recruitment efforts from the top ASID Rebate Winners; UCLA Extension, Colorado State University (CSU), and New York School of Interior Design (NYSID).
- Visit Interior Design Classroom(s), UCLA Extension
UCLA Extension’s recruiting efforts are centered on classroom visits. Classroom visits are scheduled during the first or second class of the quarter and include classes that students usually take in the first two quarters of the program. The membership chair reviews class schedules and creates a Doodle invite where board members can specify their availability. When possible, two board members visit each class. This allows them to feed off each other while discussing ASID and helps with the administration process of disseminating and collecting enrollment forms. In addition, the membership chair creates a list of talking points and does a sample pitch at the monthly board meeting held prior to the drive to make sure everyone is comfortable visiting the classes. Talking points range from networking opportunities, to student benefits, to the allied membership discount. Many of our instructors are either ASID members or proponents and reinforce the importance of joining as a student.
- Host a Recruitment Drive, CSU
The ASID CSU Student Chapter teamed up with similar interior design associations and hosted a recruitment fair. The fair was held over two days during busy class schedules and set up in high traffic areas in order to grab the most student attention. Armed with brochures, swag handouts, and a laptop, ASID CSU was ready for anything. Having an array of student groups sit together showed unity and diversity in regard to student group options. The recruitment fair was not only great for spotlighting the choices students have for student groups, but allowed them to ask any questions they had after the ASID presentation.
- Hold a Kick-Off Mixer, NYSID
NYSID’s ASID Student Chapter holds a Kick-Off Mixer to recruit and educate students about ASID Student membership and benefits, as well as the benefits of being involved in our student chapter. At the Kick-Off Mixer, the ASID New York Metro Chapter Student Representative to the Board (SRB) and other board leaders are invited to give a presentation to interested students. Each Kick-Off Mixer ends with a Q&A session so that students get all the answers to any questions they may have about ASID right then and there and can feel confident about applying for membership and becoming a part of the student chapter. Throughout the school year, we stress the importance of networking within the interior design industry and creating relationships with professionals before they graduate, so that when they enter the industry themselves, they have already developed a network of connections.
There are multiple ways to inform your peers of the value of joining ASID. Try one of these recruitment efforts for the upcoming spring 2016 semester.
