With the “dog days” of summer now upon us, it is a great time to relax, enjoy the weather, schedule a vacation and celebrate special occasions. At ASID, we also are taking time to celebrate our significant contributions to the profession. Our recent NeoCon and Dwell on Design conferences provided numerous opportunities for ASID members to come together and share experiences with each other and with colleagues from allied organizations.
I am so appreciative of occasions such as these that allow us to come together to celebrate and honor our profession. The impact of our work is reflected at the chapter and national level, evidenced not only through excellence in design work, but in the efforts, community service projects, student initiatives, research and so many other areas that contribute to the strategic work of ASID and to the profession at large. It is incumbent upon all of us to recognize the work of others and to promote the work of these individuals so they can be acknowledged for their contributions.
I am sure each one of us knows of someone who has made a difference to the profession and I encourage us to put forth the effort to recognize these individuals and groups at the chapter and national level. We love a reason to celebrate and I can think of nothing better than to recognize members and colleagues for their contributions to the profession. There is cause to celebrate these accomplishments and we will continue to do so! So next year, when you see the awards announcements come out at the first of the year, don’t hit “delete!” Instead, think of someone YOU would like to recognize and make it happen! Then join the celebration of design!
