Q: Is there a program for small firms with 2-3 employees? 

Yes! We offer plans for sole proprietors through large organizations often with expense reductions of 10 – 18%. 

Q: Is there a minimum number of employees required to have a plan?  

No!

Q: Is the plan for individuals available in every U.S. state? 

Yes! 

Q: How are these policies different than what is available through the Marketplace? 

The medical insurance plans are designed to help our covered members navigate the business of healthcare delivery and reduce their out-of-pocket expenses.  Using the Care Advocacy services, members can reduce their out-of-pocket expenses for facility services and specialty medications, often to $0, increasing their financial wellness, and reduce their financial anxiety during a stressful event.  

Q: Is it traditional insurance Major Medical Insurance? 

Yes, all plans offered through the ASID Member Health Insurance Program are ACA Qualified polices with options to use national PPO networks, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums. 

Q: Who is the insurance company? 

Members are offered a choice when selecting a plan, most notably, the provider networks are CIGNA PPO and PHCS Professional Services PPO.  

Q: Are major medical carriers available like United Healthcare? 

No. Plans available through the ASID Member Health Insurance program are designed around transparency and pricing efficiency.  

Q: Do you work with major hospitals like Mayo Clinic? 

This is case specific. There is no limitation of hospitals in the US; however, treatment plans must be pre-authorized.  

Q: Is there a wait period when signing up for the ASID Member Health Insurance program? 

Members will have a choice when selecting the plan right for them and their employees. 1) Employers with 1 or more participants will select their waiting period. 2) Sole Proprietors (without an LLC as an example) will have open enrollment November through December 31 each year with an effective date of January 1.  Enrollment in any other month of the year has the first of the month following a 60-day waiting period.  For example, if the enrollment date is January 15, the effective date of the insurance will be April 1.   

Q: Who is the medical insurance company and will employees be able to use their same care providers? 

All plans offered through the ASID Member Health Program offer National PPO networks. For employer groups, you will be able to customize the networks for your employees.  Individual policies will use the networks offered through CIGNA or PHCS. 

While the networks are large national networks, not all networks have every provider. Check with Arcwood if you have favorite providers, or if you are undergoing treatment for care continuum.  

Q: Do the plans cover pre-existing conditions? 

Yes. However, your current providers, treatments and medications may not be covered under the plan. To ensure continuum of care and avoid treatment disruption, schedule a call with one of Arcwood’s consultants before enrolling. 

Q: The health insurance premium is age rated. Is there also a health questionnaire or physical? 

A health questionnaire is asked to ensure continuity of care. Plans available through the ASID Member Health Insurance program are ACA-qualified.  You cannot be declined; however, occasionally your existing coverage may make more sense due to treatment plans.  

Q: Is a referral required to see a specialist? 

Generally, no; however, some plans offer Care Coordination advocacy and when used, will reduce your out-of-pocket expense.

Q: I work for a company that pays for my ASID membership but does not offer health insurance benefits. I privately pay for my own health insurance, am I eligible?  

Yes! 

Q: If I am an individual ASID member, can I also purchase insurance for my spouse? 

If the ASID member enrolls, coverage is available for spouse or domestic partner and dependent children.  

Q: If I begin this program as a member of ASID, and then eventually retire, can the coverage continue? 

Once you retire and become eligible for Medicare, Medicare would be your available option. If you retire before Medicare eligibility, Marketplace subsidies are generally best due to income changes.  ASID encourages members considering this option to contact an Arcwood specialist for review.  

Q: If I am an ASID member, is my company eligible if I am not an owner and the company is not a member? 

Yes! Your company may sign up for the ASID Member Health Insurance program. 

Q: Do employees of an ASID partner organization need to be ASID members to be eligible for the ASID Member Health Insurance program?  

No. An ASID organizational partner may sign up for the program and all employees would be eligible to participate.  

Q: I am a firm owner with a remote employee in another state. Can I provide health insurance options to my employee through the ASID Member Health Insurance program?  

Yes! 

Q: Does an entire company need to apply for health benefits? For example, a company of 4 employees only requires health benefits for 2 employees 

No, only the two employees who need health benefits should apply. The company may contribute to the premium, and any remaining amount will be paid by the employee. 

Q: If I am currently insured through another carrier, would the ASID Member Health Insurance program replace my current health insurance?  

Yes, the program could replace your current health insurance.  

Q: How affordable is an individual plan? 

Rates are published on the benefits website provided by Arcwood. ASID recommends scheduling a call with an Arcwood specialist for a review.  

Q: Are the premiums monthly or quarterly? 

All premiums posted online are monthly. 

Q: How can I access a Member Advocate that is with my health insurance plan?  

Members will have a few connection points to the program’s Member Advocates through mobile apps to house benefit and communication options; a phone number; and an email address.  Phone calls have an average response time less than 5 minutes, email has an average response time of 24 hours.  

For scheduled services, the preferred advance contact time is 21 days before the date of service.  However, if your scheduled service is sooner than this, please make sure the advocate knows so they can escalate the process. 

Q: How long does it take for the Member Advocate to refer you to a doctor per request?

On average, direct contracts and authorizations are processed in two weeks.   

Q: Is there an online portal to manage finding in network doctors, reviewing claims, etc.? 

Yes! Once enrolled, the member portals provided by the insurance plan will provide these plan details.  Prior to enrolling, you may navigate to the benefits website provided by Arcwood for links to the provider networks.
